I Love My Kids

“I love my kids.”

It’s a simple statement really, and one that every single parent remarks on nearly every single day.  Maybe it’s a passing comment to a friend, a colleague, a relative or even a stranger.  Maybe it’s a reminder to yourself of why you agreed to do so much for/with your kids (i.e, driving them to gymnastics, taking them to skating, volunteering as a supervisor for a field trip…).  Or maybe it’s the mantra you repeat to yourself when things get tough, the kids get annoying and you need to remember that you really do just love your kids.

I have to admit that most weeks “I love my kids” can be all three of those things for me.

Ok, I’m not kidding anyone.  Every day that simple statement means all 3 of those things to me.

Regardless though, it remains true.

Even when they are driving me absolutely, bat-shit crazy, I love my kids.

Even when I have to lock myself in my room and pray for sanctuary… I love my kids.

Even when they are doing everything in their power to make me want to run away crying and screaming, while pulling my hair out… I love my kids.

Why??

Because when I’m sick or sad, the Boy will give me hugs and wish me better.

Because when I’m in a bad mood, the Princess will turn on my favorite song and get me to dance around the house with her.

Because when I’m feeling lonely, Baby will curl up in bed with me and put her arm around my neck to sleep.

Having kids isn’t always easy.  It’s not always fun.  Some days it really, really sucks.  But at the end of everyday, no matter whether it’s been a good one or a bad one, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Because I love my kids, and they make everything worthwhile.
